MARGARET ATWOOD Pens Comic for Geek Girl Dating Guide Kickstarter

It’s a truth pretty universally acknowledged, that a lot of the geek guides to dating you will find out there are geared towards the antiquated stereotype of a teenaged male who never leaves his basement. Since we geeks of the 21st century have proven time and again that we come in all shapes, sizes, races, and genders, it’s pretty awesome surprise to find out that comic book publisher/editor Hope Nicholson is crowdfunding a new anthology called The Secret Loves of Geek Girls. Even more exciting is the announcement that legendary writer Margaret Atwood will be contributing her own drawn comic detailing her personal experiences as a young woman.

Atwood has been publishing some of the most provocative and thoughtful literature since the 1960s and continues to surprise with her dedication to political issues, feminism, and the future of publishing and literature. Some titles you may be familiar with are The Handmaid’s Tale, The Blind Assassin and the upcoming The Heart Goes Last set to be released in September. She was even the first contributor to the Future Library Project which blends art, conservation, and literature for a truly special project — though it will not come to completion until 2114. While I knew of her poetry and other forays into writing, I was not aware that she drew until I saw this exciting announcement on Twitter a few days ago. It’s no surprise that the idea of her contributions to a geek girl anthology have sparked wild enthusiasm in the online community.

The Secret Loves of Geek Girls will include written stories, original art and comics from people like Kate Leth, Sam Maggs, Renee Nault, Jen Bartel, Trina Robbins, Rachel Deering, Marguerite Bennett, and Katie West, as well as many others. The cover will be done by Gisèle Lagacé and Shouri. If you have any interest in awesome comics and stories written by equally great women, I highly suggest you run over to Kickstarter and pledge for a copy of it right now. The campaign ends July 24th with completion and delivery expected for December 2015.

How excited are you for this? Let us know in the comments!
