There are a lot of interesting stories one can tell when bridging the gap between our quest for knowledge and our understanding of life as it exists currently. Such is the hook of WGN America’s latest, Manhattan, though: things are messy, complicated, on the cutting edge while simultaneously human — meaning a bomb (literal or otherwise) could go off at any moment. Which is exactly why the subject matter is so thrilling.

Beyond the science — though we find all of that very interesting and delightfully nerdy — there’s an incubator of interpersonal relationships living in an extreme environment, making for some truly fascinating television. Naturally, we jumped at the chance to chat about how these issues come into play when we sat down with the cast and crew of the series while on set in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Yeah, that’s right — we know where they’re hiding the atomic bomb but no, we won’t tell you where. (Some secrets really are meant to be just that. Plus we don’t know you! You could be Kim Jong-Un for all we know. No offense.)
