Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi to Reprise Roles in TANGLED Animated Series

Get your frying pans ready everybody, our favorite long-haired heroine is getting her own animated series on the Disney Channel in 2017! As I’m sure you’ve already gathered from the title, Rapunzel and Eugene (a.k.a Flynn Rider) are making the leap to the small screen. What’s more, the series will be based on the film and both Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will be returning to reprise their roles.

The series follows in the wake of the 2010 film Tangled and the successful short Tangled Ever After, which aired on Disney Channel after its debut before Beauty and the Beast 3D in 2012 and racked up a whopping 5 million total views.

As for story, the series is set between the events of the film and the short. After reuniting with her parents and the people of Corona, Rapunzel’s spirit and curiosity about the world lead her to put both her new position and impending marriage on hold to go on adventures with Flynn Rider, her chameleon sidekick, Maximus the horse, the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs, and series newcomer Cassandra who is described as a “tough-as-nails handmaiden” and Rapunzel’s confidant.

TANGLED - "Tangled," an animated series for kids, tween and families, based on Walt Disney Animation Studios' acclaimed feature film, has begun production with Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi reprising their roles as Rapunzel and Eugene (also known as Flynn Rider). The series will premiere in 2017 on Disney Channels around the world, it was announced today by Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. It will also reunite Disney Legend and Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater. (Disney Channel) EUGENE, RAPUNZEL

There are several big names behind the series including legendary composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater. The series is being developed by executive producer/supervising director Chris Sonnenburg (Enchanted), and co-executive producer/creator director Shane Prigmore (The LEGO Movie). Additionally, Jase Ricci (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will be the story editor, Kevin Kliesch (Tangled Ever After) will compose the score and Claire Keane (Frozen and Tangled) served as a consultant on the series’ development.

“The genius of the original movie was its seamless blending of cinematic adventure, character-driven comedy and touching emotion. And we are fortunate to have several of the creative talent from that movie on board with this new production,” commented Gary Marsh, president and CCO of Disney Channels Worldwide. “With the addition of Chris and Shane as executive producers, we have the perfect team in place to create a series worthy of the original film.”
