How Much Power Does Magneto Need to Rip Iron from Blood?

Magneto is arguably one of the most powerful (and coolest) of the X-Men. Manipulating the electromagnetic spectrum, he can shift, shape, and summon metal. He’s apparently so powerful in X-2: X-Men United that he can use his mutant abilities to rip the iron right out of your blood. But just how powerful would he have to be to do that? As powerful as the most intense magnetic fields in the known universe.

In my latest Because Science, I’m breaking down the most cited iron-ripping scene. First, how much iron is in the human body? Is there enough to pull three metal spheres out of an abusive guard in a plastic prison? Second, if there is enough iron in the body, what kind of magnetic field strength would it take to remove it? More than you think, but you’ll have to watch my latest episode to find out!
