MADAGASCAR’s King Julien Subs in for WILLY WONKA’s Best Scene

Willy Wonka reigned over his chocolate factory like a self-proclaimed king, ordering around a legion of strange little underlings. Worse still was his plan at the end of the movie to give away his entire company to a young child drawn from a random worldwide lottery. So who better to help us recreate one of the most famous scenes from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory than another lunatic monarch: King Julien from Madagascar?

Danny Jacobs, the voice of the King of the Lemurs from the Madagascar franchise, joined host Rob Paulsen on our Alpha series Talkin’ Toons, and the two recreated the classic scene when Willy Wonka screams at Grandpa Joe about why Charlie won’t be getting the lifetime supply of chocolate. Rob filled in for Joe with his spot-on impression of legendary performer Ed Wynn, who voiced the Mad Hatter in Disney’s Alice in Wonderland.

That scene is absolutely one of my all time favorites, but mostly because Gene Wilder’s intensity has always scared the crap out of me. It’s only now after hearing Danny Jacobs’ hilarious King Julien scream “Good day, sir!” that I realize how ridiculous it really is.

If you want to see the rest of this episode of Talkin’ Toons, you can find the show at our online Alpha community. We’re so excited for you to sign up and discover all of our other great series that your first 30 days are on us!
