MACGRUBER 2 Is a Thing That Is Actually Going to Happen in Our Lifetime

MACGRUBER 2 Is a Thing That Is Actually Going to Happen in Our Lifetime

After all the nuttiness on TV yesterday, we have something a lot more rational, sensible, and soul-soothing in today’s Movie Morsels for you: confirmation that MacGruber 2 is moving forward! Plus, the latest photos from Doctor Strange, news on Transformers: The Last Knight from Mark Wahlberg, and much more to tickle your fancy this fine fall day…

MacGruber 2

When I say, “Mac!” you say “Gruber!” “Mac!”… Okay, maybe I’m just a little too excited to hear that after waiting forever for some real news about the future of the MacGruber franchise (and I can’t believe I just got to type the words “MacGruber franchise”), writer-director Jorma Taccone of Lonely Island fame is offering hard photo evidence that he is, in fact, meeting with Will Forte and working on a script…

Forte’s comedic chops, formidable during his days on Saturday Night Live and in the first MacGruber film, have been more impressive than ever in his hit show Last Man on Earth. And with a new MacGyver TV series currently in production at CBS, the time has never been better for a sequel to the unappreciated 2010 comedy. Or as MacGruber himself would say, “Classic MacGruber!”

Doctor Strange

Thus far we’ve seen very little of Rachel McAdams’ character from Marvel’s Doctor Strange. But the latest issue of Empire magazine, which features two covers devoted to the film, gives us a batch of new photos, including one ofMcAdams’ Christine Palmer, medical colleague of Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme…

While Doctor Strange’s leading lady will, in my mind, forever be the white-dressed extra-dimensional Clea, McAdams is such a damn good actress I expect she’ll make us all fall in love with Palmer. She looks like she’ll be the only major non-magic character in the film, and thus its one tether to some form of earthly reality.

Transformers: The Last Knight

Transformers: The Last Knight

Though I’m still disappointed that Transformers: Age of Extinction never gave Mark Wahlberg the opportunity to say, “Hey Dinobot, say hi to your mother for me!” it looks like the Bostonian thespian may have a chance to do so in the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight. Ol’ Marky Mark chatted with Coming Soon about the film’s most exciting new feature: Mini-Dinobots.

“It’s a cool new story. It’s kind of like a man on the run. Sir Anthony Hopkins is also in the film, got a cool new cast and cool new robots, some cool new villains and some cool new Dinobots. I think you guys are gonna really go crazy for the mini Dinobots.”

Peter Rabbit

Rey

It’s pretty friggin’ far from Easter right now, but fuzzy wuzzy anthropomorphized bunny rabbits are once more in the news. A new animation/live-action hybrid adaptation of the classic Beatrix Potter children’s book The Tale of Peter Rabbit is on its way, and it’s got some high-profile acting talent behind it. Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ Daisy Ridley (pictured above) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s Elizabeth Debicki have just joined the film, directed by Will Gluck with animation by The LEGO Movie‘s Animal Logic. James Corden had already signed on to provide the voice of the titular rabbit and Rose Byrne jumped on board to play the live-action “Bea.” Any guesses on who Ridley and Debicki will play, Potter fans?

Silence

Finally today, director Martin Scorsese (a.k.a. America’s greatest living director) has a release date for his next film. Silence, a period drama about two Jesuit missionaries (played by Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield) in search of their lost mentor (played by Liam Neeson), will get limited release on December 23, just in time to qualify it for Oscars, and will then open wide in January. Since, with the exception of Hugo, this is the first Scorsese film to star someone other than Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role since 1999’s Bringing Out the Dead, I’m looking forward to seeing Marty work his magic without his good luck charm for a change.
