M. Night Shyamalan Resurrects TALES FROM THE CRYPT at TNT

Fasten your drool cups and ready your vomit bags! We’re going back to the ol’ stomping grounds of everyone’s favorite Crypt Keeper. That’s right: TNT has confirmed at the Winter Press Tour for the 2016 Television Critics Association that M. Night Shyamalan will be heading up a reboot of Tales from the Crypt, coming our way later this year. So we’re breaking down this very exciting news with Jessica Chobot on today’s Nerdist News.

Before you get all “but, but, but!” (because that’s what the internet likes to do best), it’s best to understand the details: Tales from the Crypt will be a part of a new, two-hour block of terror and suspense programming curated by the Oscar-nominated writer-director. Though there’s no confirmation for the extent of it, Shyamalan is “definitely going to direct at least the first [episode],” President Kevin Reilly explained during his executive session on Thursday morning.

“This is a new genre for us in our series efforts and a great chance to partner with M. Night Shyamalan, … truly a master of horror,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. “This two-hour horror block demonstrates not only TNT’s commitment to working with today’s top talents, but also our strategy to stand out in today’s marketplace by challenging the conventional rules of programming and scheduling.”

For those who somehow missed the reign of terror provided by Crypt, the series originated in the 1950s from EC Comics and was created by William Gaines. Its cult/pulp popularity spawned multiple seasons of the cult classic show for HBO based on the original comics. In addition to Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan, James D. Stern (Looper, Freeheld) is executive-producing.
