LUMBERJANES and GOTHAM ACADEMY Crossover Comic Announced

One of the surprise gems from DC Comics recently has been the ongoing Gotham Academy series by the creative team of writers Becky Cloonan and Brenden Fletcher and artist Karl Kerschl. The series follows a group of young teenagers in a boarding school in the heart of Gotham City, and all the Batman-centric weirdness that entails.

Also debuting in 2014 — and making quite a splash with readers at the same time as Gotham Academy — was Lumberjanes from BOOM! Studios. Coming from the creative team of Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and Noelle Stevenson, Lumberjanes similarly followed a group of five young women at summer camp, along with all the supernatural weirdness they encountered along the way.

Now the worlds of the gloomy and mysterious Gotham Academy and Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types are about to collide, as DC Comics and BOOM! Studios have announced a special six-part crossover series. The mini-series is set to hit comic shops in June, and this will be BOOM! Studios first ever crossover with another publisher.

In a statement, here’s what the publishers had to say about the upcoming crossover series:

“It’s a natural fit: Both series follow an ensemble cast of young characters as they grapple with normal teenage stuff (love, tragedy, identity) and the kind of stuff that most teens will never have to face, like yetis (Lumberjanes) and Batman’s nemesis Killer Croc (Gotham Academy). The limited series is written by Chynna Clugston-Flores (Blue Monday) and illustrated by Rosemary Valero-O’Connell (Lumberjanes).”
