Netflix’s First LOST IN SPACE Trailer is More Serious Than We Remember

Nearly three years ago, Netflix and Legendary TV joined forces for a modern reboot of Irwin Allen’s Lost in Space, and now the departure date is almost upon us. Netflix has revealed the the 10-episode first season of Lost in Space will premiere on Friday, April 13. The first teaser for the series has also been released, and it introduces the Robinson family as they prepare to board the Jupiter 2 for a voyage to their new colony in Alpha Centauri. Unfortunately for the Robinsons, they’re on a one-way trip to “danger!”

The teaser appears to be narrated by Molly Parker’s Maureen Robinson, who has been re-envisioned as an aerospace engineer for the reboot. Her husband, John Robinson (Toby Stephens), also appears in the video alongside their three children: Judy (Taylor Russell), Penny (Mina Sundwall), and Will (Maxwell Jenkins).

However, the trailer doesn’t show us Parker Posey‘s Dr. Smith, the woman who may be behind the catastrophic journey ahead. In the original series, Jonathan Harris’ Dr. Zachary Smith was an enemy agent who sabotaged the Robinsons’ ship and found himself trapped with them as they went wildly off course. The new Dr. Smith may prove to be equally treacherous, and perhaps even more deadly.

It appears that the new take on the series will completely abandon the campier aspects of the original. The story is set only three decades into our future as humanity attempts to flee Earth for a better home on a new world. The series’ description implies that the Robinsons won’t be the only family going on this adventure. And the closing seconds of the teaser also debuts the new voice of the robot as it provides its signature catchphrase: “Danger, Will Robinson!”
