LOGAN Footage Introduces Wolverine to Donald Pierce, and More Movie News

Hey kids, who’s up for some fresh footage from Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine movie Logan? Then you’ve come to the right place! Today’s Movie Morsels is a beauteous bounty of news and previews, including a new clip from Kong: Skull Island, a video announcing the director and star of the Raid remake, and lots more to put a smile on your face…

Logan

Hey, did you know that the X-Men’s cyborg enemy Donald Pierce takes his name from actor Donald Sutherland and the character he played in M*A*S*H, Hawkeye Pierce? It’s a Movie Morsels fun fact! Of course, the version of Pierce we’ll meet in Logan is a little different from the Hellfire Club member that writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne concocted way back in April 1980’s Uncanny X-Men #132. But he’s still got his cybernetic “enhancements,” as the latest footage from the film makes abundantly clear…

Kong: Skull Island

Two of America’s greatest living acting heavyweights go mano-a-mano in the first clip from the King Kong reboot Kong: Skull Island. Watch as Samuel L. Jackson’s world-weary Vietnam vet gets a lesson in the existence of monsters from John Goodman’s Monarch executive, who refers to a certain giant fire-breathing lizard (a topic Monarch knows a thing or two about, as we all saw in Godzilla)…

Aquaman

Aquaman

Jason Momoa — the most fan-friendly member of the Justice League cast — drops a few hints about the upcoming solo film featuring his Overcompensation Man, er, I mean Aquaman, as well as the movie’s undersea world in a new interview with Digital Trends

“I read the [Aquaman] script and let me just put it this way, I’ve never seen a movie that’s anything like this. It’s going to be a world that you’ve never seen before, which is really cool. We went to space, we traveled all over different worlds, but we never went underwater. So it’s just a really cool spin on what’s below and it uses a lot of great movies that I already love — whether that be Raiders of the Lost Ark to Star Wars to Lord of the Rings to Romancing the Stone. It has a lot of really cool adventure, it’s funny and heroic, and there’s a lot of different characters and a lot of different worlds that we get to go to. So I’ve never really seen anything like it.”

The Raid

Few action movies in this decade have drawn the near universal praise of Gareth Evans’ The Raid, which means its American remake will have its work cut out for it when it starts shooting this year. Fortunately, the film now has a director with some action experience: Smoking Aces helmer Joe Carnahan. Captain America: The Winter Soldier baddie Frank Grillo will star opposite Taylor Kitsch in the lead role. Evans will serve as producer, so at least this version will have some of the original’s DNA. Carnahan’s appointment was announced in the following Twitter video…

Suicide Squad 2

Now here’s a pairing I never thought we’d see… In case you missed it yesterday, Mel Gibson is currently being courted by Warner Bros. to direct the Suicide Squad sequel. It’s expected that you might have strong feelings about this matchup one way or the other, and Kyle Anderson tries to make sense of the confusion question: Can (and should) we separate the art from the artist?
