Get your DVRs ready, because Saturday Night Live has announced a killer host for its October 8 show. While the SNL season premiere on October 1 will be hosted by Harley Quinn herself, Margot Robbie, they’ve lined up a solid host to follow up the season opener. Just in case you’ve been suffering from a bit of Lin-Manuel Miranda withdrawal since his departure from his Broadway smash, Hamilton, he’s blessed us all by signing on to host SNL. The Wrap reports that Miranda will be hosting alongside musical guest 21 Pilots.
So of course the big question is what can we expect to see from Miranda’s turn as SNL host? Will he rap his monologue? How many times will Miranda join the long line of hosts and cast members who break character mid-show? Will we see any cameos from other Hamilton cast members? Will we get to talk about Miranda’s love of the complex and thrilling children’s show, Chuggington?
We also don’t know if we’ll get to see Alexander Hamilton in any of Miranda’s skits, or if they will focus more on Miranda as the playwright like his comedic turns on Inside Amy Schumer and Difficult People. Personally, I’m hoping for a little bit of both. It’s quite likely we’ll get to see Miranda reprise his role as the Ten Dollar Founding Father, and maybe even as Usnavi from his first Broadway smash, In the Heights. After all, back when Neil Patrick Harris hosted Saturday Nigh Live, they definitely tipped their hat to Harris’ role (and classic striped sweater/scarf combo) as Mark in the modern Broadway classic, Rent.
This is a pretty pivitol season for the show, as two fan favorite cast members, Jay Pharoah and Taran Killam have left, and three new cast members, Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseñor and Mikey Day, have joined the SNL cast. Of course with solid hosts like Lin-Manuel Miranda, the new cast members should have no trouble settling into their new roles.
