The Doubleclicks Covered HAMILTON’s “History Has Its Eyes On You” on Cello

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway smash, Hamilton, has inspired so many of us to create awesome, original art. From fashion lines to even inebriated retellings of Hamilton’s life, the show continues to inspire people. Most recently, Aubrey Webber of the amazing band The Doubleclicks was inspired to cover the Hamilton song, “History Has Its Eyes On You” on her cello. The result is nothing short of breathtaking.

Webber plays the song completely on her own, but breaks it down into three harmony parts. While the original song is beautiful–and that basic tune is carried throughout the rest of the show, which adds even more emotion to that melody–hearing it performed solely on the cello adds a bit of poignancy to the song. Plus, Webber performs in what she refers to on her Twitter as her, “best George Washington coat,” which really just adds a little something extra to the entire performance. But in all seriousness, her cover is freaking fantastic. As Lin-Manuel Miranda would say, you’ll want to watch it a fafillion times.

If you’ve never gotten the chance to see The Doubleclicks live, you can check out their tour schedule to see when they’ll be in your area next. And if they aren’t going to be performing near you soon, you can always catch one of their amazing online shows. While you can’t grab this song on iTunes or Google Play, if you support the band’s Patreon, you can download the song. With all of the amazing music The Doubleclicks put out there, you’ll be up to your eyeballs in good, geeky music.
