Lin-Manuel Miranda Hosting SNL, DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special Update, and More

Does your life need comedic sketches about Alexander Hamilton? Then rest easy, because that’s more than likely what you’ll get on Saturday Night Live when Lin-Manuel Miranda hosts. Learn more in today’s TV-Cap and also find out about a superhero coming to the next Doctor Who Christmas special, see a trailer for season five of Arrow, and more.

Hosts with the Most. Saturday Night Live returns on October 1 with a new season, and they’ve announced some upcoming hosts and musical guests. Margot Robbie will host the show on October 1, and on October 8, Lin-Manuel Miranda will step in. Heck. Yes. He’ll be accompanied by musical guest 21 Pilots. How many Hamilton sketches will they do? I’d be okay if it was all Hamilton all the time. [Nerdist]

History and the Musical. Let’s keep hanging out with the ten-dollar founding father. PBS’s upcoming documentary Hamilton’s America isn’t only about the making of the Broadway hit, it’s about the story of Alexander Hamilton through the lens of the musical. Director Alex Horwitz had a hunch Miranda was onto something cool, so he started following him around with a camera as he developed Hamilton just in case. Get a peek at the results in the above preview. Hamilton’s America arrives on October 21. [Twitter]

Not that Mrs. Robinson. Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot has found its Mrs. Robinson. Molly Parker will play Maureen in the series. [TVLine]

Not So Bad. FXX’s You’re the Worst proves once again that it actually isn’t the worst, as it has been renewed for a fourth season. How’s the third season going? Read Alicia’s review. [Deadline]

Changing the Rules. Oliver Queen’s philosophy about killing his foes has changed over the last four seasons of Arrow. He’s been anti-killing for a while, but a season five trailer shows he’s willing to bend the rules in order to get the job done. But will he really go there? How can he be Mayor and a murderous vigilante? What do you think? The show comes back on October 5. [Nerdist]

Hello, Hero. Doctor Who has featured dozens of aliens and creatures in its 50+ years on the air, but the next Christmas special will bring something different. Radio Times reports the special will include a superhero. You read that right. Justin Chatwin will play a comic book hero in the story. Color me intrigued. [Nerdist]

Anthology Scares. Universal Cable Productions has made a deal with the Alfred Hitchcock estate for an anthology style television series that will focus on a season-long mystery or crime “in the spirit of the classic Hitchcock style and legacy.” Welcome to Hitchcock will be designed in collaboration with the estate to make sure it essentially stays on brand. I’m excited they’re opting to tell new stories instead of drawing from a familiar well.

Jay and Julian. New photos from the second episode of The Flash’s third season show off a couple of cool characters: John Wesley Shipp is back in costume as Jay Garrick and Tom Felton appears as Julian Dorn. You can see more pics from “Paradox” at CBR. [Images: The CW]

Babymetal Goes Digital. When bands are on fire, it’s smart for them to take good opportunities when they come up, and Babymetal is doing just that. They’re working with Warner Bros. on a Babymetal web series. Yep. Learn more here at Nerdist.

He’s Back. Saturday Night Live had to find a new Donald Trump for the upcoming season, and they’ve revealed the latest impressionist to tackle the man who is actually a living cartoon. Their pick? Alec Baldwin. Watch him get into character in the above video. [Nerdist]

Recap Time. Let’s make a stop at rewind corner. Fall TV is getting back into full swing, so we need to look at some recaps. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced a new director in its latest episode; Joseph’s recap is here. Scream Queens introduced more twists; read Samantha’s recap. American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare kept up with its docudrama style (does anyone think that’s going anywhere?), and Samantha has, you guessed it, a recap.

Will throw away your shot or will you watch Miranda on SNL? How about Hamilton’s America? Talk to me in the comments (bonus points if you tell me your favorite lines from Hamilton).
