LeVar Burton Read GOODNIGHT MOON to Neil deGrasse Tyson and It Was Adorable

Twitter is a powerful platform, connecting millions of users with each other every day. Sometimes, these connections lead to wonderfully entertaining pop culture connections that benefit everybody involved.

Case in point: Back in May, astrophysicist and basically everybody’s favorite smart guy Neil deGrasse Tyson tweeted, “I occasionally long for someone to read ‘Good Night Moon’ [sic] to me as I fall asleep.” LeVar Burton, one of the best book-readers of all time whose work on Reading Rainbow brought words to life for millions of children, responded just minutes later, “I got you… Let’s do this!”

Fast-forward to now, and it’s finally happened: Tyson posted a video on his StarTalk Radio YouTube channel of the fateful meeting between the two, during which Tyson cuddles up to Burton as the best possible man for the job reads him Goodnight Moon. Armed with a pillow, blanket, and stuffed animal, Tyson rests his head on Burton’s shoulder and when the story is over, he posits an important question, to which Burton can only smile in response: “Levar, do you think when the cow says ‘moo,’ they’re really saying ‘moon?'”

If you want more Tyson and Burton, the two previously teamed up (along with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane) to narrate an audiobook of Car Sagan’s COSMOS. Burton also has a new podcast that’s basically Reading Rainbow for grown-ups, so you’ll never have to miss his voice again. What other children’s books would you love to hear Burton read? (Yes, he’s already done Go The F–k To Sleep). Let us know what you think in the comments below!
