Let Your Nerd Imagination Run Wild With SPACETEAM

Back in August, Nerdist listed Spaceteam – an increasingly popular party app for iOS and Android from Sleeping Giant Games- as one of the top 10 gaming apps you should have. The game involves you and your friends having to shout commands at each other to avert disaster in a space ship, because the things you need to do won’t necessarily be doable from YOUR phone, but might be accessible on one of your friends’ phones. Well, as a nerd who is apparently behind the times, I recently played Spaceteam over some nachos, thinking it would be a silly, calm, normal, laid back thing to do while we waited for the pizza delivery man to come. Little did I know that I would soon be immersed in a FIGHT TO THE DEATH… but you know, as a team.

I was beamed into my ship. My player was purple with an orange elephant trunk. He wore suspenders, like all aliens do. His/her control panel consisted of normal things like “Clip-jawed Fluxtrunions” and “Suspended Equalizer.” He/she was ready for anything. 10 minutes later I found myself out of my chair, screaming at my poor teammate, “INCREASE ARTIFICIAL GAUGE TO 3, DAMMIT, WE’RE LOSING TIME!” We were all in our element.

We kept the pizza man waiting until our ship inevitably fell apart. The wormholes, asteroids and green goo became too much for my Spaceteam. And even though we never made it past level 7, we have a special bond that no one can take away from us.

In my mind, this game would be perfect as a company-wide team-bonding exercise. I’ve posted Spaceteam‘s trailers below if you’re not already convinced to download the free app. It’s the best decision you’ll make all day.
