LEGO to Make Ghostbusters Set for the Film’s 30th Anniversary

The LEGO CUUSOO Program has officially announced the winner of its Fall 2013 submissions, a Ghostbusters set to be released in honor of the 30th anniversary of the film. The set will include all four busters, as well as their famous form of transport, the Ectomobile.

The LEGO CUUSOO program accepts independently created LEGO sets every quarter and lets LEGO enthusiasts vote on which ones ought to get green-lit for official review. Past winners include the Mars Curiosity rover and Back to the Future‘s DeLorean, along with Marty and Doc figures. The craftsperson of the original submission even receives 1% of the total net sales should his or her idea get selected. A hefty 10,000 votes will get you an official review from the suits at LEGO, who might just put your design on the shelves. 3D Environment Artist Brent Waller had such luck for his Ghostbusters submission in the Fall 2013 round.

The photos below are not necessarily what you’ll see in stores; These are simply pictures of Waller’s submission. Since the selection of Brent’s model was just announced today, no official LEGO versions have been produced just yet.

Don’t let this photo fool you – though their fire station head quarters are pictured here, it is only the cast and Ecto-1 that will be offered in LEGO form. See it as an opportunity to build your own Hook & Ladder #8 from scratch! (LEGO CUUSOO)

The crew’s famous chariot, The Ectomobile. Other vehicular winners include Back To The Future’s Delorean (LEGO CUUSOO)

Below is a promotional video produced by Waller showing his surprisingly functional model of the Ectomobile. Slimer is also included here, but like the Ghostbusters headquarters, he won’t necessarily be included in the final set. Waller did a great job with all the characters, but Bill Murray is flawless. A quick glance at this rendition could have you mistake him for the “actual” Dr. Peter Venkman.

Unfortunately for this fan, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is not included in the LEGO form of the cast, presumably because his circular, gelatinous shape is a little tough to represent in rigid angular form.

If you feel so inclined, you can get out there an rock the vote yourself right now. There are plenty of bids currently in contention for the next round of reviews, including to-scale models of Luke and Vader’s light sabers.

What other cinematic classics, or feats of space exploration for that matter, do you think deserve official representation in LEGO form? Let us know in the comment section below.

One misconception in particular is the bank desires your house. The lending company wants your money, not the house. They want the funds they loaned you along with interest. Steering clear of the bank will simply draw some sort of foreclosed final result. Thanks for your write-up.

Thanks for expressing your ideas. I might also like to convey that video games have been ever before evolving. Better technology and improvements have made it simpler to create authentic and fun games. These kind of entertainment video games were not actually sensible when the actual concept was first of all being used. Just like other kinds of know-how, video games as well have had to evolve by many generations. This itself is testimony towards fast continuing development of video games.

Of course Slimer’s underwhelming, as it’s just an unchanged Rotta the Hutt (Jabba’s kid) from the Clone Wars Lego sets! If TLG adds Slimer to the official set, they’ll probably make their own mold for him, or brick-build him with a printed face.

You could always make your own Stay-Puft marshmallow man out of… well, marshmallows!

  14. Johnny says:

I’m more then satisfied with the Ecto-1 itself. The firehouse would have raised the price of the set way to high for me.

I’m a little underwealmed by slimer, but the rest looks fantastic!
