LEGO STAR WARS: DROID TALES Will Retell STAR WARS Saga

Before Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes to theaters on December 18, we’ll get to see a new take on the six existing Star Wars films. Don’t worry: Lucasfilm and Disney aren’t releasing new special editions with further edits (as far as we know). No, they’re turning the saga into bricks with LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales. The animated series will retell the story of Episode I – Episode VI with five 22-minute episodes and will air on Disney XD sometime before the release of The Force Awakens.

LEGO and Star Wars go together like chocolate and peanut butter. Besides the physical toys and video games, there’s been the humorous LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles limited series and a couple other LEGO specials that aired on Cartoon Network. All were penned by Michael Price, and based on recent tweets from Price, he’s also on board for Droid Tales. Utini! The series will be told from the perspective of C-3PO and R2-D2.

When the story starts, the Rebels have just claimed victory on Endor. C-3PO and R2-D2 are sharing stories about their adventures (probably mostly C-3PO because we know how hard it is to make him shut up), and while they talk about everything that led them to the Battle of Endor, a new adventure leads to the retelling of everything that happened from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi. I know it’s not anything close to canon, but it will be fun/cute to see what the droids are up to throughout the films. I’m sure Threepio will have opinions.

Are you looking forward to seeing a new LEGO take on the Star Wars saga? Let us know in the comments.
