Jurassic Park has now been around long enough as a property that the toy license for the first movie has come up for grabs again. Mattel snatched the action figure rights from Hasbro like a raptor in the night, while LEGO, which has recently been showing off sets for the Jurassic World movies, has been a clever girl and made a neat little diorama from the first film featuring several key moments.
Most obvious at first is the main computer room, where the velociraptors first showcased the ability to understand door handles, and Dennis Nedry’s devious plot was exposed. It includes push-in deadbolts for the door, a map of Isla Nublar, a red phone to call for too-late back-up, and best of all, Nedry’s finger-wagging li’l screensaver:
But then on the other side of that window, you also get the embryo room, complete with Nedry’s thermos for smuggling one out (after this, they have to give us Nedry in another set, right?). And then, behind the logo window–and this is cheating the movie geography a bit–we get the kitchen where Lex and Tim tried to hide from the raptors. It comes complete with a window that the dinosaurs can knock out, a cupboard the kids can hide in, and a LEGO wiener.
It even replicates the scene where Lex freaks out upon seeing a dino-shadow while she’s eating a green gelatin dessert. That actually happened in a different room, but since we’re already cheating a bit, it’s a really cool bonus easter egg to include.
As for the stepladder, that’s presumably there in case there’s ever a LEGO Jackie Chan and he needs some weaponry. Minifigs of Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and the two kids are part of this $39.99 set, which is available right now to purchase directly from LEGO, or other retailers.
What sets from prior Jurassic Park films would you like to see next? Will LEGO go the way of Funko and make a shirtless Ian Malcolm? Stomp into comments below and let’s discuss.
