Learn to Use Oxygen in This BORDERLANDS: The Pre-Sequel Gameplay Preview

Warning: Australian accents ahead.

Gearbox is making a convincing case for their oxygen management system in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Instead of simply making it a finite commodity which will keep you and your fellow Vault Hunters alive on one Pandora’s moons, it’s also the secret to your character’s high jump, according to Producer Joel Eschler out of 2K Australia.

In this 15 minute narrated gameplay walthrough from PAX East, Eschler and Gearbox Associate Producer James Lopez, that’s not the only way you’ll be able to use your oxygen supply in the co-op shooter. An area-of-effect stomp attack allows you to launch yourself up then plummet down at the end of the arc of your jump, venting precious air in the process.

And since it’s a low-gravity environment, grenade attacks will launch enemies off the surface of the moon (although I’m wondering how the combat will be affected by limited atmosphere environments where players can replenish their oxygen supply).

Oh, and as for the Australian accents among the voice actors, Eschler confesses in the walkthrough that sometime during the course of the development of The Pre-Sequel, the moon kind of turned into Australia.

Neat!

The Pre-Sequel bridges the stories of Borderlands 1 & 2, allowing you to play as Handsome Jack before he was quite so handsome or even the CEO of the Hyperion Corporation along with three other new Vault Hunters (including Claptr4p) on the low-gravity environment of Pandora’s moon, and it’ll be available on the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 sometime later this year.

And what do you know, we have a handy-dandy preview of the game from PAX East.
