KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE Reveals Subtitle & Plot Details

Fox’s 2014 sleeper hit Kingsman: The Secret Service is spawning a sequel in 2017, and while details outside of some epic casting have been pretty scarce, Empire Magazine revealed the new film’s subtitle, a few plot points, and some exclusive concept art in their latest issue. The art isn’t available online yet, but you can bet that once it is, we will be sharing it with you. Here’s all the new information we’ve learned from the story.

Last we heard, Matthew Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman are returning for the sequel. Kingsman: The Secret Service stars Taron Egerton and Mark Strong are also both coming back to play Gary “Eggsy” Unwin and Merlin, respectively. We previously announced that both Julianne Moore and Halle Berry had been cast in unidentified roles, though it was assumed one would be our Big Bad for the new story. Empire Magazine‘s story does indeed confirm a few things in this department. Julianne Moore will play Poppy, the villian of the new international story, and Halle Berry heads up Kingsman’s American counterpart organization, Statesman. After these reveals, everything is a bit more murky in terms of speculation.

The art revealed in the article shows the Kingsman headquarters in ruins, indicating something dastardly occurs that sends Eggsy and Merlin to the United States where they meet up with Berry’s Ginger and her top spy, Jack, a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy,” whose casting is unannounced as of now.

Additionally, the art reveals that Statesman’s headquarters is disguised in a whiskey distillery (make of that what you will), and that Kingsman possesses some gadgetry right out of the pantheon of spy films, like a car that can turn itself into a submarine, presumably how Eggsy and Merlin get themselves off to the United States after their HQ is destroyed. There is also a reveal of Poppy’s evil lair and an unexplained intact 50’s era diner smack in the middle of some jungle-surrounded temple ruins.

There’s been no confirmation on whether fan-favorite Colin Firth will return as Harry Hart, but Vaughn has confirmed that the sequel will be just as action packed as the first film, with promises of action sequences on the ski slopes, some dogs that are much higher tech than what we’re used to, and, because this really can only be done justice with a quote, “a massive f***ing frankfurter,” according to Vaughn. I’ll be honest, I side-eyed the article at that point, but I am super excited to see what else this team could possibly do to impress me after the joyously violent and off-the-wall ride that Kingsman: The Secret Service was a couple of years ago.

Stay tuned for updates to this once the art work is available for us to share. In the meantime, tell us what you think they might be setting us up for in the comments below. I’m pretty excited to see a Big Bad lady, and to see Halle Berry be completely badass as the American spy leader. I’m also going to need the guarantee of continued sass from Eggsy to anyone and everyone he comes into contact with. Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters on June 16th, 2017.
