Kadavar Channels Sabbath in Skybound Single “Words of Evil” (Premiere)

In the past, Skybound and Scion AV have collaborated to bring us such delights as the AIR movie premiere at San Diego Comic Con, numerous behind-the-scenes videos with Robert Kirkman, and an Outcast-themed Scion iA—a “possessed” car that operates pneumatically, complete with an automated sequence of lights and audio effects. Now, the two companies have teamed up again to give us a two-track, metal-infused digital single succinctly titled: Scion AV Presents Skybound Digital Single.

Nuclear Blast Records’ crew Kadavar recorded a brand new track exclusively for the companies’ lateset record. The German retro rock band is fresh off the release of their third album, Berlin, which arrived last summer lathered in praise. Of the LP, Metal Injection said, “it’s rare to find an album that’s nearly flawless from beginning to end.” Praise doesn’t get much higher than that.

Today, Kadavar returns with “Words of Evil,” the A-side of the aforementioned digital single. The track channels the sleek, lead guitar-driven metal of Metallica, but it really owes allegiance to Sabbath. Singer Christoph “Wolf” Lindemann has melodic inclinations similar to those of Ozzy, and the guitars chug along with the relentlessness of “Paranoid.” Not many can meld the psychedelic décor of Black Sabbath with the cleaner, more exacting Metallica, but Kadavar can. In true retro rock fashion, Kadavar invokes tried and true hallmarks of the past in order to get to its present, and it kicks like a mule.

“Words of Evil” is now available for a free download via this Nerdist premiere. You can check out the digital single’s other metal track, Lost Society’s “Braindead,” over at Scion AV’s Soundcloud. But stick around and rock out here first.
