[UPDATE] JUPITER ASCENDING Moves to February 2015

UPDATE: Deadline now reports the film’s delay was due to a desire by the Wachowski’s to have more time to complete VFX work on the film.

It’s been a while since last we saw a new film from The Wachowskis. Cloud Atlas was nice, but it also wasn’t a fully Wachowski picture, considering the inclusion of Tom Tykwer in the director’s chair. Though Cloud Atlas was a fascinating movie in its own right, what we want now is a new “solo” Wachowskis picture. We want something fresh from the team that gave us the uber-popular Matrix trilogy and uber-cult flick, Speed Racer. That need was supposed to be satisfied this July with an all-new space opera from the duo titled Jupiter Ascending, but unfortunately, it now seems we’re going to have to wait a few more months for it to invade our eyeballs.

While no reason is currently being given, Variety is reporting the film has been delayed by Warner Brothers until February 2015 — February 6th, 2015 to be exact. Currently, the studio has Liam Neeson’s Run All Night slated for the slot, but that’s now expected to change. The major release against Jupiter Ascending will now be Legendary Pictures’ Seventh Son instead of The Purge: Anarchy, Planes: Fire & Rescue and Sex Tape.

It’s always hard to speculate on why these last minute shifts are made, but clearly something major has gone down behind the scenes. Warner Bros. marketing campaign for the film had already been kicked into motion with some trailers and posters when this announcement came, so this will sadly go down as a financial loss going into the new February date.

Were you looking forward to Jupiter Ascending? Are you upset you now have to wait until February to see it? Let us know in the comments below.

Mila Kunis is eye candy and that’s about it. She made that OZ turd even more unwatchable. That voice, sexy though it may be, is not fun to listen to when it’s trying it’s damnedest to emote, which Kunis thinks requires her to yell loudly. Don’t get me wrong, when casted correctly, like in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” or “Ted”, she’s fine. But casting her as the next Neo? Really? It looks like a huge miscast to me. She just does not have the chops to carry what appears to be a deadly serious piece of big budget sic-fi. I’d love to be proved wrong here, but Kunis will likely be a huge target for critics when this releases. It’s not an easy thing to do, to cast that archetypal role properly. They could have spent weeks looking for an unknown, or they could have picked a hundred other established actresses to carry this film. The Wachowskis had one good film in them and if this tanks like predicted, I don’t see how any studio would even consider giving them money in the future.

I was really excited for this film. But more time for VFX never hurt anyone. I don’t know whats going on, and as always, I will withhold judgement until I see the film myself

Nope, sorry; don’t believe it. It was moved to February because February is the studios’ dumping ground for all their awful films that they know won’t make any money.

Face it: This is going to be another Wachowski turd sandwich.

Yeah i’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact its opening weekend was tracking in the low 20s (movie cost 150 million)
