Josh Gad Trolls Us with Possible Penguin Casting

Few celebrities are as delightfully trolly as actor-singer-bonvivant Josh Gad. When he was filming Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express, he was constantly badgering costar Daisy Ridley for spoilers concerning The Last Jedi. He posted these video interactions on Twitter, and they were incredibly funny, and even led to him moderating that movie’s panel at Star Wars Celebration. The latest “is this for real or is he playin’?” Gad-bomb is a recently tweeted photo that further stirs a rumor that he’s going to be cast as the Penguin in the Ben Affleck solo Batman flick.

Firstly, without context back on May 2, Gad tweeted this photo of ol’ Pengy:

It sent quite a few of his Twitter followers into a speculation spin, with people assuming–and why wouldn’t they, really–that Gad was low-key hinting that he’d be playing Oswald Cobblepot in The Batman, scheduled for release at some point in the next several years.

But who knows, maybe he just likes the Penguin. But then on Thursday, Gad Tweeted a photo at DC Comics headquarters in Burbank, alongside DC Films heads Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, and holding a comic book featuring the Bruce Timm version of the Penguin.

Josh. Come on now. You’re either being willfully trollish, or you’re actually going to be cast as the Penguin. Or maybe a third thing; we can never discount the possibility of a third thing.

Penguin

In any case, I think Gad would be a great and much more energetic version of the character than we’ve ever had on film before. And since we’re already pretty sure Deathstroke is going to be the main bad guy in the movie, it’d be cool to just have villains pop up here and there, maybe in an Arkham City-esque, night-in-the-life-of-the-Dark-Knight scenario?

What do you think? Is Gad for real or is he just a bird of play? Let us know in the comments below!
