Johnny Depp’s Supergroup to Pay Tribute to Lemmy Kilmister at the Grammys

Yep, Johnny Depp is in a band.

The Hollywood Vampires, a supergroup consisting of Depp, Alice Cooper, and Joe Perry, have announced that they’ll pay tribute to the late Lemmy Kilmister at the Grammy Awards.

Hollywood Vampires was originally the name of a celebrity drinking club started by Cooper. The sole hazing requirement for an aspiring member was to outdrink the rest of the club—no small task for a group that included such infamous inebriates as Keith Moon and John Belushi.

Last year, Cooper revived the “Hollywood Vampires” moniker for his group, choosing two bandmates who, like him, actually look a lot like vampires in the right lighting. The band functions largely as a monument to the old club’s fallen initiates, the latest of which being Motörhead’s vehement frontman.

“We started this band as a means to toast our ‘dead drunk friends’ at the Rainbow, all the ghosts in the bar, and now I guess Lemmy is involved in that too,” Cooper told Rolling Stone.

Kilmister, a legendary tippler in his own right, died of cancer in December at the age of 70. The Hollywood Vampires have not yet chosen which Motörhead song they’ll use to commemorate the late singer. They have confirmed, though, that it will be accompanied by a debut of one of their original tracks, “As Bad as I Am.”

The Grammys are shaping up to be a tribute-heavy affair. Lady Gaga is set to pay tribute to David Bowie, and Chris Stapleton, Gary Clark, Jr., and Bonnie Raitt will join forces to honor B.B. King.

Which Motörhead track you think the Hollywood Vampires will select—“Ace of Spades”? Some really deep cut? Let us know in the comments.
