John Williams Wrote a New Arrangement for His STAR WARS Love Theme

Listening to music is a great way to relieve stress and take a moment of time to yourself, which is something we all need in this day and age. Thankfully, we have the music of iconic composer John Williams for this very purpose. Williams is now recovering from his stay in the hospital (he was admitted at the end of October after a sudden illness), and according to the folks at John Williams Fan Network, he has released a new arrangement of “Across the Stars,” Padmé and Anakin’s love theme from the Star Wars prequels. The new arrangement was written for German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, who will be putting out an album of new arrangements in 2019. You can listen to the track now:

The new arrangement is gorgeous and starts a bit softer than the original track, before ramping up to an even more heart-pounding swell. While Padmé and Anakin’s relationship was woefully underserved in the Star Wars prequels, their love theme is one of the most iconic pieces of the music from the trilogy. And this new take on theme is as triumphant as ever: the violin solo underscores the full passion and sadness of the track, and the added flourishes contribute new complexity and depth. It’s safe to say we’ll be listening to this on repeat until Mutter’s full album drops.

But what do you folks think? Do you like this new arrangement, or do you like the original version? And who has the better love theme – Padmé and Anakin, or Han and Leia? Let’s discuss!
