John Williams Is Aboard for STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII and INDIANA JONES 5

Later this year, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be the first live-action Star Wars film without a score from the maestro himself, John Williams. But the man behind some of the most iconic music in cinema history isn’t done with Star Wars yet!

Earlier this week at the American Film Institute’s tribute to his 64 year career as a composer, Variety asked Williams if he would be back for Star Wars: Episode VIII. “If I can do it, I certainly will,” replied Williams. “I told [Lucasfilm President] Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley.”

Williams is coming off his latest film, The BFG, which continues his long collaboration with director Steven Spielberg. With Spielberg and Harrison Ford already lined up for Indiana Jones 5, Williams was quick to confirm that he’ll return to the franchise as well. That particular piece of news was broken by Access Hollywood’s Scott Mantz.

Within the film industry, Williams is a living legend for not only his Star Wars and Indiana Jones scores, but also his illustrious track record that includes E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Jaws, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I once saw Williams conduct his movie music at the Hollywood Bowl, and he came out for four encores. The man is superhuman! At 84, Williams has slowed down his cinematic output. But it is exciting to hear that he’ll continue doing what he does best.

Are you happy that Williams is returning to both of his signature film franchises? Let us know in the comment section below!
