One of the surprise success stories from 2014 has to be John Wick. As far as we’re concerned, it’s a modern action movie masterpiece and cemented fight choreographer Chad Stahelski as a directorial talent to watch. John Wick had a style and a comic book sort of mythology about the criminal underbelly in which the killer of killers (played by Keanu Reeves, of course) sought his bloody revenge. A second installment is hitting theaters next February, and if the new teaser poster is any indication, it’s going to be just as suave and just as brutal as the first one.
This sums up exactly what we loved about the first movie; it’s got Reeves’ steely stare (and long, greasy hair, which, I guess, is cool), him wearing a super swanky black suit, and him holding a gun calmly at his side. He got mad in the first one — because, SPOILERS, his wife dies and then his dog gets killed and his car gets stolen — but he rarely snarled when he could just as easily shoot first and ask questions later. We see the hand of a tailor measuring the suit to make sure it fits, meaning yeah, he’s thinkin’ he’s back. And to top everything off, we get the tagline “Bulletproof” in the corner. Because, well, he may as well be.
It’s a perfect teaser image for the continuing adventures of John Wick, with his new lease on life and, we assume, his newly found resolve to kill bad guys. Along with Reeves, cast members John Leguizamo, Lance Reddick, David Patrick Kelly, and Ian McShane are returning for seconds, and they’re joined by the likes of Ruby Rose, Peter Stormare, Laurence Fishburne, and Common. It’s lookin’ pretty good, this here movie. And we can’t wait to see what Wick happens next!
And if you’re going to New York Comic Con, there’s going to be a Lionsgate panel featuring Saban’s Power Rangers and John Wick: Chapter 2 on Saturday, October 8, at 2:00pm in the Madison Square Garden Theater. So go to that if you’re going to that!
