Jerry Bruckheimer Spills On The Possible Plot of TOP GUN 2

Everything seemed to be moving ahead swimmingly for the highly anticipated Top Gun 2 back in 2012. The trio of original star (Tom Cruise), original producer (Jerry Bruckheimer) and original director (Tony Scott) were all on board, and production was rumored to be less than a year away from an official green-light. Sadly things didn’t pan out as planned when Scott tragically passed away and the film was put on hold indefinitely. But it now seems Bruckheimer and Cruise have decided to continue on the path of development with a story Scott came up with before his passing:

Thanks to Ain’t It Cool for transcribing the key bit of info: “The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they’re not obsolete. They’re here to stay,” Bruckheimer said. “It’s just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he’s very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that Paramount feels they can make the picture.”

A classic “am I still worthy” tale sounds like the perfect place to take the story of Maverick. It’s a very real question for service-men who are up there in age if they’re still useful to the cause of serving their country, and it seems Bruckheimer and Cruise understand that perfectly.

Let’s hope the team finds a suitable successor to Scott and Paramount green-lights this one soon.

I refuse to watch it if Kenny Loggins is not involved in the soundtrack in any way.

  3. Greg says:

No Tony, No Tickee… Bruckheimer should leave it be. He’s only going to embarrass himself and any actors desperate enough to associate themselves with the project.

Wait a minute… wasn’t this the plot of Green Lantern?

  6. The opening: 1986 and the body of Goose is being transported to a top secret facility where scientists fight to transfer his consciousness into a state of the art fighter jet, but tragically the project is shut down.

Fast forward to present day and a global communications malfunction caused by a North Korean satellite calls for Pete “Maverick” Mitchell to investigate an old closed down project, discovering the prototype aircraft, a solo cockpitted F14 with a goose painted across it’s nose…

  7. Aceman says:

I think having Maverick in command of an Aircraft Carrier having say his kid come on board and have some situation befall him where he needs to send out an untrusted pilot to help or something along those lines would be better than grandpa Maverick suiting up again.

  8. SWO Daddy says:

Hate to break it to “Mav”, but the Navy retired the F-14a few years back.
