Jeremy Renner Wants a HAWKEYE Miniseries on Netflix

This weekend, Marvel fans are probably working their way through Daredevil season 2, which introduced the Punisher and Elektra to the TV side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while there haven’t been many crossovers between the film and TV divisions of Marvel, there’s at least one Avenger who wants to play in the Netflix arena.

During his spotlight panel at Silicon Valley Comic Con (via ComicBook.com), Jeremy Renner was asked if he would be up for starring in a Hawkeye miniseries on Netflix. And Renner sounded pretty enthusiastic about it!

“I think that’s actually a really great model,” said Renner. “If there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world. These are things that are really not in my control, but I’d be open to it. I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it. Not up to me, though.”

One of the downsides of the split between the Marvel movies and Marvel television is that Renner’s Hawkeye hasn’t yet shared any scenes with Adrianne Palicki’s Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse, the woman who went on to become Hawkeye’s partner and wife in Marvel’s comic book universe. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon took his inspiration from the Ultimate Marvel line and gave Hawkeye a wife and a family outside of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.

That said, an adaptation of the very first Hawkeye miniseries (with the first meeting of Hawkeye and Mockingbird) could still be fun, if Palicki wasn’t tied to Marvel’s Most Wanted. Alternatively, Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Hawkeye series got a lot of mileage out of pairing Hawkeye with Kate Bishop, the young woman who shares his codename. That would also be a good basis for a Hawkeye Netflix miniseries…if that project could ever happen.
