We were all surprised when an unheard Bon Iver track surfaced on Tuesdayâand then a music video for a previously unheard track from the late Jeff Buckley materialized.
In 1997, Jeff Buckley wandered into a moonlit channel of the Mississippi and never reemerged. He left behind just one album, Grace, and it remains a monument of the singer-songwriter canon. Along with seven originals and a well-known interpretation of Leonard Cohenâs masterful song/prayer, âHallelujah,â Grace contains two other covers: James Sheltonâs âLilac Wineâ and Benjamin Brittenâs âCorpus Christi Carol (For Roy).â Buckley does an excellent job reworking each piece, adding his own haunting touch without detracting from the works’ original beauty.
Now, the Buckley camp has just unveiled a video for the artistâs cover of the Smithsâ âI Know Itâs Over.â The ânewâ song is part of a larger project called You and I. Sony Music, while combing through their archives in preparation for Graceâs 20th Anniversary edition reissue, stumbled upon a bunch of unheard Buckley material. Theyâve since turned that material into an album that will feature more covers and two pieces of original music: a song titled âDream of Youâ and the first-ever studio recording of âGrace.â
Buckleyâs mother, Mary Guibert, oversaw the creation of You and I â available March 11. Until its arrival, check out the new music video and drool over the albumâs playlist:
