Jared Leto to Star in Hugh Hefner Biopic from Director Brett Ratner

The stories of Jared Leto‘s bizarre method acting techniques on the set of Suicide Squad are the stuff of Hollywood infamy–when you’re the type of actor who fully immerses yourself in a role like the Joker, you end up doing some pretty strange stuff. Where Leto’s commitment to Method acting will take him during this next project is just as curious, as a new report says the actor will slip into the robes of Hugh Hefner in a newly announced biopic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: The Last Stand) said that after his “old friend” Leto found out Ratner had acquired the rights to Hefner’s life story, Leto told him he wanted to play the Playboy founder, who just passed away last month at the age of 91.

The film is in “early development” at RatPac Entertainment, Ratner’s company, so there aren’t any details yet on what part of Hefner’s life the movie will focus on. But this isn’t the first time the director has tried to make the film. As far back as 2007, Ratner was signed on to make a Hefner movie with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. THR also says Ratner has plans to bring back the ’60s talk show Playboy After Dark, though we doubt Leto will also be filling in for Hefner as host. (But again, considering how he likes to go method, maybe we shouldn’t rule it out entirely.)

What do you think of this news? Do you think Leto is a good choice to play Hefner? Let us know why in the comments below.
