This episode split my kidneys in half with laughter! Thanks Matts!

I think Connery has to be the best lover. He’s so good he makes you forget that you just got HORSE-RAPED on a DUDE RANCH!

And may I have some more FfffffflllllllEEEEEYYYYEEEEMMMMEEEEIIIIINNNNGGGG on the next episode my good man, doncha know I say!!!!

  2. jason says:

I’ve apparently missed what the email address is-what is it?

  3. Mike R. says:

    GIMME SOME REGGAE!!!

  4. Andy says:

    It is indeed that episode.

  5. Can anyone help out? was this the ep where the Matts made fun of the reggae section of the Live And Let Die theme? (Linda: “hey, Paul, check out this little bit I’ve written”) and, if so, anybody got a timecode? such a great bit. (thanks so much)

  6. Nate2764 says:

I’m probably in the minority, but I don’t have much interest in seeing Blofeld return. An organization like SPECTRE, absolutely. But I’d prefer they leave those classic characters as they are in the legacy of the series. Same goes for titles, but I’d have no objections to seeing story elements or sequences borrowed from the novels. And since I can’t resist commenting on social issues, I have to weigh in somewhat on the Connery bit. I don’t think the message he was getting across was “I love slapping around poor, defenseless women for pleasure.” More that he finds it no better than for a woman to hit a man. Of course, being the prideful old Scot that he is, I’d say he got a bit arrogant with Barbara and it came out “Yeah, I’ve hit a woman. What of it?” It really isn’t proper to slap anyone around, regardless of gender. But I don’t think someone should be condemned for all eternity for losing their temper.

  7. Soylent Green says:

I love the idea of Connery as Blofeld, except and it pains me to say this, I saw those pictures of him at Wimbledon earlier this year and he does not look physically imposing any more. He looked rather frail. I reckon my 6yo daughter could slap him with an open hand, no problem.

  8. fatcraftbitch says:

To answer Matt’s quesiton of whether or not people are listening to this who haven’t seen the movies yet – yup. I’ve listened to 6-7 episodes of the podcast and I’ve only seen half of two bond movies.

  9. LevelledUp says:

Lorde is awesome and a real artist, but there’s someone else I think would be better for a Bond theme.

If anyone here has listened to Sia’s Kill and Run from the Gatsby soundtrack album. That is the Bondiest song I’ve heard in a long time.

  10. Tex Valance says:

Floating this…Lorde sings the next Bond song? She’s got that Husky thing that works for me.

  11. Cassie Noroy-al says:

Just started listening to this and am hooked. I would love to hear more Ian Fleming. Perhaps a segment where Ian can review each film on a scale from 1 to whimsy?

  12. Mike says:

You should see if you can get Edgar Wright on, for either a Brosnan or a Dalton episode, or even another supplemental episode like this. They put Brosnan in “The World’s End”, and Dalton in “Hot Fuzz.” There has to be a story behind that, as well as some great stories about working with them.

Personally, I think it would be ideal to have Wright on your Living Daylights or License to Kill episode, and hear a bunch of kick ass Dalton stories while you talk about the movie. What are the odds of that happening?

  13. Luke says:

Please put together a compilation/mix-tape of all the Ian Flemming impersonation segments!

  14. Vince says:

Also love the idea of musical episode, you guys! I just hope you guys don’t leave out the Bond games with original themes. I very much like Joss Stone’s “I’ll Take it All”, from the unfortunately mediocre game, 007: Blood Stone.

  15. Vince says:

After seeing the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special, it has to be mum. They called someone that, either Queen Elizabeth in David Tennant’s story or Kate from UNIT. At some point, a, “Mum” was definitely thrown out there. I remembered BECAUSE of this podcast, and the big deal you guys make about it! I was like, “So they DO use ‘mum’ to talk about ladies in high position in the UK!” 😛

  16. Matt Gourley says:

MB – I did do Ian Fleming on Dead Authors. It hasn’t been released because it was a two guest show and those have never come out. But Paul mentioned he needed me to record an intro for it so it must be coming soon. Thanks!

  17. Sheila says:

Enjoying the podcast. But if I ask very nicely, will you stop eating while on the microphone? Thanks!

  18. Jack says:

I agree with Andy. The score – both over the title sequence and for the rest of the film – is one of the many reasons On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is so good. It’s one of my favorite pieces of music ever, and I was legitimately giddy when Matt G. gave that as his answer.

  19. Andy says:

Man Guns and Roses are bad, and that version of Live and Let Die is nearly unlistenable. I actually paused the podcast walked into the other room and told my brother how much I disliked them. I’m with Matt Gourley though. The Man with the Golden Gun has really grown on me (the lyrics are the worst) but I find the song super catchy. I also love the instrumental On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and I think that Mira was unfair to dismiss it. My favorite though is Nobody Does it Better. And the Living Daylights. I’m right with one of those I’ll let you folks decide.

  20. Ken says:

A quick thought on who would win, Batman or 007. As equal as they may be in skill, I think we could all agree that all iterations of James Bond have been extremely reckless. That is not going to work against Batman, who’s greatest asset is discipline.

  21. Ian says:

Matt M. – You said Ernest Stavro Blofeld. It’s Ernst.

    Loving the show, guys.

  22. Paul says:

James Bond a Time-Lord? Of course he is; and not just any old Time Lord, but the greatest of them all : RASSILON !!

  23. Ryan says:

Uh, oh. I accidentally hit the “whimsy” button.

  24. anncoultersadamsapple says:

I don’t want this podcast to go away so please do as many bonus episodes as you can. A full episode of Matt’s Ian Fleming would be very much appreciated.

  25. Joshua Bryan Hammack says:

So I laughed so hard that my eyes teared up. I am unfortunately at worked, and had to attempt to stifle this reaction. Jolly good show my good man. Please Tally Ho towards that future episode by the by, and quicken your pace. Please that would be lovely!

  26. Tanya says:

I liked this show, and was hoping you’d do shows just devoted to specific aspects of the Bond canon, like villains, Bond girls, gadgets, music, cars, locations, etc.

Also, I used to live in Colorado, and I was told by my mom that one of the residents of where I lived was in a Bond movie as a stunt skier. I can try to confirm with other people I know that live there, and see if they know for certain. Maybe you could call him and talk to him about being a stunt skier? Feel free to email me if you want me to take time and check it out for you!

  27. MB says:

Gourley, PLEASE do the Dead Authors Podcast with PFT as Ian Fleming!!! I could listen to you do that all dang day…

  28. Ben says:

“Some of you may not know my earlier work… I’m from SuperEgo”

Uhhhh… am I the only one watch James Bond Movies to listen to this podcast because it comes out more regularly than Super Ego?

  29. CountessTracy says:

Love the Mission Briefing bonus episode. Please do another all about the Bond music – that is a great idea!!

  30. James Clark says:

I hope my comment didn’t come of snooty or anything. I did not intend that, and now realize that it could come off that way. My first bond experience was Goldfinger, watched it on a bond marathon on spike tv. The first one I saw in theaters was Casino Royale when I was 11. Again love the podcast.

  31. James Clark says:

Actually, The guitar used to record the theme is in fact an archtop with a pickup on it. So it is an electric guitar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeuhXwvb3V8#t=92 As you can see via the link he is plugged in to a 70s era fender silverface.

  32. Wildride says:

Twin Bond girls: Whimsy and Mimsey.

  33. Molly says:

Craig’s James Bond is definitely the best lover, no contest. Connery would be good, but you’d feel a little ashamed after.

  34. Admiral Kent says:

Scarlett: I’ve had your best friend’s wife and she’s nowhere near $68/hour. Matt G., can’t get enough of your Ian Fleming…do yourself a favor and dump Teddy Ruxpin.

  35. ScarlettJPaulsen says:

my best friend’s ex-wife makes $68/hour on the computer. She has been out of work for 8 months but last month her check was $20463 just working on the computer for a few hours. website link…. x.co/2xdnm

  36. Mike says:

Great show. You should do those bonus episodes more often.

I’m pretty psyched at the idea of the return of Blofeld. If it happens, it will be a huge moment in the series. And as far as casting, I’m sure there are many great actors who could do the role justice. But if they want to take this opportunity to put the reboot into high gear, and bring the entire series full circle, there is only one actor that is up to the task.

    Blofeld is… Sean Connery.

Yes, he’s retired. But they’ve broken the bank before to bring him back. And they have a history of giving multiple roles to the same actor.

I know it’s a long shot, but if it happened, it would be epic. What do we have to do to pull this off?

  37. Colin says:

Great Episode! Can’t wait until the next one.
