Listen to Jack White’s Super Funky Theme for MAYA & MARTY

Jack (of all trades) White hasn’t released any new solo material in 2016 but, somehow, it has been one of his busiest years yet. After co-starring in The Dead Weather’s music video for “Impossible Winner,” covering Stevie Wonder with The Muppets, and appearing on Beyoncé‘s Lemonade, Jack White is adding yet another item to his impressive resume: TV theme song composer.

Jack White, along with a cast of usual Third Man Records suspects, penned the bluesy, wah-heavy theme for Maya Rudolph and Martin Short’s live variety show, Maya & Marty, which premieres tonight, May 31, on NBC at 10 p.m. ET. The show is modeled after the stars’ alma mater, Saturday Night Live, and will feature an assortment of comedic sketches, musical performances, and special guests. Fingers crossed that one of the special guests or musical acts turns out to be the blues phenom himself.

With the TV composer title now under Jack White’s belt, will he foray further into the world of film and TV? He is such a polymath that it would be naive not to expect this chapter of Jack White’s career in the near future. With all the uncertainty that surrounds the Bond franchise and its next steps, how insanely cool would it be if we got a new 007 theme song from Jack White? A bluesy theme for (hopefully) Tom Hiddleston’s refined swagger would be perfect.

Matt Grosinger is the music editor of Nerdist and wants Jack White to score more for TV and film in 2016. Maybe let’s start a Kickstarter?
