Jack White Opened A Third Man Records Store in Detroit, His Hometown

While you spent Thanksgiving eating an unreasonable amount of pie and then regretting it, Jack White was a little more industrious with his time. During the holiday weekend, the former White Stripes frontman opened a new Third Man Records store in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

The new store follows the first that opened seven years ago in Nashville, and like the inaugural location, the Detroit store will also sell vinyl, limited edition releases and Third Man Records merchandise, as well as host intimate live performances.

“It’s such a wonderful thing for Third Man Records to be here in the Cass Corridor, where so many of us made our bones and so many people from Detroit and our community did so many artistic things,” White said. “Everything about this neighborhood to me seems like the perfect place for the renaissance, the rebirth, the growth from the ashes that Detroit’s gonna rise from.”

The location will also host the Third Man Vinyl Pressing Plant, which will produce limited runs of new records. “There’s a bottlenecking in the record pressing industry right now – so much glorious demand, so few presses,” Third Man Records wrote in a previous release. “We want to help ease the flow, and we want to bring more ‘real-life manufacturing jobs back to Detroit.'”

Third Man Records and White seem committed to bringing positive vibes to Detroit, and there’s nothing like music to yield happy times. The opening weekend festivities were also filmed, so check out a Third Man Records-produced video above.
