Jack, Slayin’ Giants: The New “Jack the Giant Slayer” Trailer

The new trailer for Bryan Singer’s take on the Jack and the Beanstalk/Jack the Giant Killer fairy tales, Jack the Giant Slayer (yes, the title was changed from Jack the Giant Killer), is out, and it certainly is different. (I’ve always been partial to the Bugs Bunny version, myself). The basic premise is that Jack accidentally opens a gateway to another world where giants rule, and he ultimately has to rescue a princess and, um, slay giants. I guess the title gives that away. It’s got giants, definitely. And a cat. And some humor, and a beanstalk, and flying, flaming trees and Stanley Tucci and Ewan McGregor and Ian McShane and Bill Nighy (he’s the larger of the two heads) and Nicholas Hoult from X-Men: First Class (and Skins) in the lead and Eleanor Tomlinson, who did a couple of episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures, as the princess. I’m not sure what the overall tone of this one will be, since you get a couple of goofy moments amidst serious action.

March 1st (yet another new date, this one a few weeks earlier than previously set but still several months after the original target). As always, we ask: You in?

Note: It’s a Legendary Pictures movie, and when that happens, we always note that Nerdist Industries is owned by Legendary Pictures and that we’re editorially independent. And we are. So, yeah.

Planet Hooston, please keep in mind that the trailers don’t show the finished CGI product. With a release date 4+ months off, there is still probably 3 months and several hundred hours of graphical work still going into this film.

  2. Planet Hooston says:

I’m getting tired of CGI looking like CGI. There have been great CGI films- Avengers, District 9,Avatar, etc. -that have done a fantastic job. But this and the ‘Oz’ movie have this crappy, jerky movement, plastic face looking crappy CGI that looks like it’s from10 years ago.
We deserve much better than this for 2012, c’mon guys.

  3. RG says:

(on the other hand, it’s awesome to see Ewan McGregor in fantasy territory again; he’s one of the often-overlooked positives about the prequels).

  4. RG says:

It looks cool, but I don’t get why Stanley Tucci is shoved into everything. Captain America, Hunger Games… he’s always the character who skirts the closest to “too wacky” territory, and always in movies that are in danger of being too wacky to begin with.

  5. Vincent S says:

Wow, I think I’ll actually love this one.

  6. Jeremy says:

It looks pretty bad-ass. I’ll go see it.
