J.J. Abrams Calls for Entries for the STAR WARS Fan Film Awards

Are you itching to add your voice to the Star Wars chorus? You can do so in a visual way by participating in Star Wars Fan Film Awards. The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams kicked off the start of 2016’s fan film contest with a special message and a call for entries (as you can see in the video above). The competition is open to a variety of categories—comedy, drama, non-fiction, you name it. But remember, this is Star Wars, so I probably wouldn’t go for something in the Deadpool range (though, leaning towards a darker story would be fine).

The winners of the Fan Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony at Star Wars Celebration 2016 this July; the convention is taking place in London. Winners receive glory, fame, and most importantly, a Star Wars Prize Pack. The Prize Pack will included merchandise, limited edition concept art, and a trophy. Top honors will be given in the following seven categories: Filmmaker Select, Best Animation, Best Non-Fiction, Spirit of Fandom, Best Comedy, Best Visual Effects, and Audience Choice.

You have until April 24 to get your submissions in before you wait, until the end of June, to find out whether your creation made the cut. Don’t worry about how to pass the time; you can just watch The Force Awakens over and over again.
