It’s Official: The GILMORE GIRLS Netflix Revival Is Happening

Oy with the poodles already! After months of feverish speculation, leaked set photos, and making wishlists about what we’d like to see in a Gilmore Girls revival (Hep Alien! Max! Jess! A Stars Hollow festival!), we finally have confirmation from Netflix: IT’S ON. After Lauren Graham, a.k.a. Laurelai Gilmore herself, tweeted that she’s officially returning to the show, Netflix shared the news out as well.

Variety confirmed that Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, and Kelly Bishop are all confirmed to return along with Gilmore Girls‘ original showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino and her producing/writing partner, Daniel Palladino. Netflix has not confirmed that the beloved series’ “final season” will take place over the course of four 90 minute episodes, as has been rumored, but we think that would be an interesting look at a year in the Gilmores’ lives.

If you somehow missed the 2000s WB series about the fast talking mom and daughter who love coffee, pop culture, and each other, well, that basically sums it up! The show ran for seven years, but the final season was mired with controversy and shoddy storytelling after the Palladinos left the series. Fans generally like to pretend that it never even happened, but hey–now we get a do-over.

Though Scott Patterson, Laurelai’s on-again-off-again/soulmate Luke Danes, will be back for the revival, none of the ladies’ flings are confirmed to return yet. But… they have to, right? At least Jess (Milo Ventimiglia), the smirking bad boy who stole Rory’s heart. Though I have my complaints about Gilmore Girls’ last season, one thing I loved was that she went off on her own (to work for the Obama campaign!) instead of being tied down by some dumb boy. But now that Rory is presumably older, wiser, and has read thousands more books, I’d love to see her and Jess figure things out as adults. A girl can dream, right?

There’s currently no release date set for the Gilmore Girls revival, so we’ll just have to wait and see… and rewatch the original series on Netflix ’til then.

Which other characters would you like to see return? (Besides Michel, of course.) Let us know in the comments below!
