TV-Cap: GILMORE GIRLS Revival Coming to Netflix

Sometimes the best news comes on Mondays. This week it was the arrival of the a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and news about the revival of Gilmore Girls. One of those is more exciting than the other, but the return of Gilmore Girls ranks rather high in my book! Read today’s TV-Cap for information on that revival, for interviews with The Magicians cast, to see a new The X-Files poster, and more.

Copper Boom! Fellow fans of Stars Hollow: Today is our day. It looks like Gilmore Girls will be back for a limited-series revival on Netflix. It’s all in progress still, but Warner Bros. is bringing back Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino for four 90-minute episodes. Cast negotiations are in the works. Given how many of them showed up for the reunion at the ATX Festival this summer, I’m hopeful that many of our favorite Stars Hollow residents will return! Wherever you lead… [Nerdist]

Taken Prequel. Remember the Luc Besson film Taken with Liam Neeson saving his kidnapped daughter? Neeson played Bryan Mills and was intimidating as heck. A new prequel series from NBC will turn back the clock and explore how Bryan was trained. Homeland executive producer Alexander Cary has been tapped to write, executive produce, and run the series. [Deadline]

A Magical Education. Syfy is adapting Lev Grossman’s The Magicians series. The show is premiering in 2016, and that means the cast is out and about and promoting. Our own Rachael Berkey talked with several of them at New York Comic Con about the series that mostly takes place in a magical college of sorts. They might not love this label, but think of the series like a more adult Harry Potter. Keep that in mind and read Rachael’s interviews right this way.

Sestras! Why read about the Orphan Black panel at PaleyFest when you can watch it? See series co-creator Graeme Manson, Tatiana Maslany, Jordon Gavaris, Kristian Brunn, and Maria Doyle Kennedy discuss season four, Project Castor, their Funko Pop! toys, and more. [Nerdist]

Survival on Mars. One aspect of discussing movies set in space is usually discussing the believability of the science and technology, and now there’s a new series to analyze that. Science vs. Cinema is hosted by astrophysicist Andy Howell, and as you might guess from the title, he looks at various films and tears apart the science involved. In the pilot episode, he takes on The Martian. [Slashfilm]

Rolling with It. Porn parodies are a fact of life, and there’s even one for Community. Yep. It’s called This Ain’t Community XXX, and Dan Harmon (Community creator) tracked it down and live-tweeted it. His commentary is about as amusing as you’d imagine. You can read the tweet highlights at The A.V. Club.

Blowing Smoke. The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) stars in the newest poster for the return of The X-Files. The poster for the upcoming Fox series emphasizes that we–or maybe Mulder and Scully–should “Trust no one.” Not bad advice for life or when dealing with conspiracies involving aliens. [TVLine]

More Maisie. Maisie Williams wins in the charm department, and if you ever doubted that, it’s proven as fact in some behind-the-scenes videos she filmed for Doctor Who. She guest starred in the series last week as Ashildr and has some videos from set with a look at the Mire performers, Peter Capaldi, and more. [Nerdist]

Running to Disaster? Rick Grimes is all about business. In a new clip from the next episode of The Walking Dead, titled “Thank You,” Rick takes out walkers as efficiently as ever but also seems to injure his hand in the process. Hmm. Do you think there’s any chance he gets bitten? [Comic Book Resources]
