It’s a House of El Family Reunion in the Latest SUPERGIRL Season 2 Trailer

After a long summer of renewal concerns, exciting casting news, and teasers, the season two premiere of Supergirl is almost here (October 10). And though we’ve learned quite a bit about the show’s sophomore season, we still have a ton of questions… like what we can expect from the musical episode, what’s next for Kara and her mentor Cat Grant, how The Flash‘s Flashpoint storyline will effect Kara, and how Supergirl‘s move to The CW might change the story. While those are all huge questions, one of the biggest stories of this new season is the fact that Supergirl is officially welcoming her cousin, Superman himself, onto the show.

For the whole of the first season, Superman was this ever-looming figure that Kara clearly had a lot of love for, but we never actually saw him (though we did see his shadowy figure once). Not only did we never get to see his face, but in the first episode, they went to great lengths to never say the name Superman, calling him things like “the other guy” or “the guy in blue.” Of course, it was pretty clear why they were doing that: allowing Superman to take a backseat helped Kara talk her place as Supergirl without playing second fiddle to her cousin, and there was also the very real question of who would play Superman, the DCEU’s Henry Cavill, or someone else entirely? Now that clear lines have been drawn between DC television shows and the DCEU and Kara has had an entire season to establish herself as Supergirl, the Supergirl showrunners are finally ready to show us the DC TV version of “the other guy.” In the Supergirl season two teaser, we get our first peek at Superman and Supergirl teaming up to fight the forces of evil together, and it looks like it’s gonna be super (#SorryNotSorry).

The teaser is brief, but Superman and Supergirl already have a big job on their hands, saving what appears to be a giant spacecraft from a catastrophic crash with Earth. We also get to hear Kara express her excitement over teaming up with her Kryptonian cousin, saying she’s dreamed about the two of them fighting crime. I know I’m very excited to see what Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman is like, especially compared with Melissa Benoist’s ever-cheerful but always brave Supergirl. There’s always a chance that a major network shakeup can cause growing pains for a new series, but this teaser shows that Supergirl plans to kick off its sophomore season with a bang.

What do you think of the new teaser? Are you excited for them to bring Superman onto Supergirl, expanding the DC TV universe even more, or do you think it detracts from Kara’s story? What do you think of the show’s move to the CW? Let us know what you think in the comments!
