Pokémon Go has really been pulling out all the stops to keep people on the app that basically took over the world this summer: It was revealed a few days ago that a future update to the game will likely include a points system that rewards players for opening the app and engaging with it daily. Now, via a new data mine by The Silph Road, it looks like the second generation of Pokémon, introduced in Pokémon Silver and Gold, will make their way to Pokémon Go.
This is great news, but the update may still be a ways away: Pokémon #152 to #251 (Chikorita to Celebi) are now referenced in the game’s code as of v0.45.0 of the game, as released on Android, but there’s no moveset data or character models in the data just yet, so of course, Pichu, Togepi, and the rest of the Gen 2-ers won’t be in the game until that happens.
Speaking of movesets, though, it looks like Niantic is also preparing to add a new move to the game: Transform. It’s in the code with its own animation and everything, and once it’s implemented, it’ll be the first new move introduced to Pokémon Go since its launch. Fingers crossed that this means Ditto will finally be a catchable character in the game, since he’s the only non-legendary first-generation Pokémon that isn’t currently obtainable in the game today.
The introduction of second-generation Pokémon would likely bring back players in droves, and we’d love to add legends like Bidoof to our Pokédex.
