IRON MAN 3’s Shane Black Tapped for PREDATOR Reboot

UPDATE: Dan Casey weighs in.

Considering how iconic the character is among audiences, it’s amazing how few entries there are in the Predator franchise. As far as stand-alone films ago, there have only been three — Predator (1987), Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010). That’s three over the course of nearly thirty years, five if you include the Alien vs Predator crossovers (you shouldn’t). It should come as no surprise then, that a new report from The Hollywood Reporter claims Fox is about to officially put a reboot of the famed alien franchise into production. What is surprising is who they have supposedly hired to run the show.

According to the outlet, Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has been tapped to helm the film with a script by Monster Squad director Fred Dekker, based on a treatment that will be developed by Black and Dekker together.

For the unaware, back in the heyday of Hollywood’s spec-script based film economy, Black was sneakily brought in to do a re-write of the original film by being offered a small role in the film itself. Basically, they sprung it on him while he was on set in South America. Now that’s some classic Hollywood sneaky sneak, ain’t it?

It’s a wonder why it’s been so hard for Fox to get this franchise to click in today’s modern age, but if there’s anyone that can do it, it’s Shane Black.

Are you excited for a new Predator film? Who do you think should star in it? Let us know in the comments below.

Billy. Billy! The other day, I was going down on my girlfriend, I said to her, “Jeez you got a big pussy. Jeez you got a big pussy.”She said, “Why did you say that twice?”I said, “I didn’t.”See, ‘cuz of the echo….

  2. This doesn’t sound like a joke, but how can Black and Dekker NOT be a joke?

  3. I think a new predator movie would be right on time….. however, leave the originals alone. please. I can’t handle another reboot.

  4. Paul Wright says:

Pity nolan was not directing as he did great things with the batman reboot,  a proper trilogy with a beginning and an end. Actors at the top of their game. Would be interesting to see his take on the predator franchise.

  5. Axel-san says:

    I was hoping for a Predators 2.

    • I would be totally ok with that. I’m tired of studios raping my childhood by changing things that were already perfectly awesome to begin with.

  6. Paul Wright says:

Since he was involved with the original he may be the one to get it back on track but I also worry that the studio will mess with it for audience figures,  avp was a very poor inclusion in the series. Just make an awesome predator film

  7. Tara Sue says:

I was happy till I saw Black was doing it. Hey maybe we will get a decent 1st half of a movie, then a kid will show up… sorry not a fan of Iron Man 3. And if ends up anything like that count me out.

  8. PaladinPool619 says:

I’ve enjoyed all of the Predator flicks, even the AvP. Will be happy to see the ugly dudes back on the screen. As for re-boot, Hollywood execs keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

  9. Allan Rich says:

It’s a shame we don’t get some sort of continuity from Robert Rodriguez’s entry. I really enjoyed that one.

  10. Supreme Power says:

Shane Black was not only sneakily brought in to rewrite the original, he was there to possibly take over as director when they were considering firing director John McTiernan after all the issues they were having (least of which the original ninja-like ‘Anubis’ Predator being played by Jean Claude Van-Damme)

  11. Chris Hale says:

The Predator movies haven’t really been tied to each other. They’re pretty stand alone sans some quick references to 1 in 2. Doesn’t need a reboot just another awesome movie.

  12. Jonathan says:

If anyone can make this franchise matter, it’s Shane Black. I hope this works out.

  13. Rob W says:

    I don’t think it needs a reboot.  Why can’t we just get a 4th movie…
