INVADER ZIM Comic Book Gets A Full Slate of Variant Covers

Remember that Invader Zim comic we touched on earlier this year? The series is being published by Portland’s Oni Press and is being helmed by series creator Jhonen Vasquez. Next Wednesday, July 8th, the series will hit invade your local comic shops and be available to the masses! Now that we’re so close to the release, and so close to Comic-Con, Oni Press just gave a full detailed list of the variant covers that will be released for the inaugural issue.

The comic series will contain some tweaks from the original series, but the main character, Zim himself, will remain largely the same. After all, Zim’s manic energy is what propelled much of the original series’ humor. Why change a good thing?

Oni Press had the following to say regarding their SDCC plans:

Invader Zim #1 will arrive in stores next Wednesday, July 8th, just in time to make San Diego Comic-Con a major event for Invader Zim fans. Oni Press will host a panel, The Return of Invader Zim, Saturday 7/11 at 2 pm in Room 29AB that features original creator Jhonen Vasquez, original show staff and creative staff on the new Zim comic Aaron Alexovich, original show writer and comic staff Eric Trueheart, Inker on the new Invader Zim comic Megan Lawton, and Oni Press Editor-in-Chief James Lucas Jones. Questions for the panel will be accepted via responses to a specific message on Oni Press’ Twitter in the week leading up to Comic-Con, with those whose questions are selected winning a copy of Invader Zim #1. Invader Zim cosplayers visiting Oni Press’ booth (#1833) at SDCC will also receive Invader Zim #1. Bryan Konietzko (creator of Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, and staff member on original Invader Zim show) has produced a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive cover for the first issue that will be available exclusively at Oni Press’ SDCC booth.

Books-a-Million Stores will be releasing the Julieta Colás variant. Colás is an artist for Rick and Morty, and her variant has a Napoleon-esque Zim posed with a globe, set for utter global domination:
