Over the course of the first three Insidious films, the story of Elise Rainier has come to the forefront despite the horrific events of the first movie. Next year, Elise and her fellow demonologists will uncover a hidden chapter from her past in Insidious: The Last Key. The official trailer for the fourth Insidious movie has been released, and it covers Elise’s homecoming as she discovers a supernatural threat with ties to her own past.
While Lin Shaye is reprising her role as Elise, Hana Hayes will be playing Elise as a teenager, when she encounters the skeletal apparition in her own home. Perhaps the most unsettling thing about this creature are the keys on its fingertips and its ability to turn off the screams of its victims. The keys clearly serve a purpose, but what else can they unlock? And why doesn’t the older Elise have any memory of her previous encounter?
If the first trailer for The Last Key wasn’t enough to satisfy you, the new international trailer has a few additional scares. It also serves as a more effective introduction to Kirk Acevedo’s character, the man whose family currently inhabits the home that Elise grew up in. Judging from the footage early in the trailer, the ghostly apparition is already threatening his sanity.
Insidious: The Last Key will haunt movie theaters on January 5, 2018.
