IDW Gives CLUE the Comic Book Adaptation It Deserves

Who murdered Mr. Boddy? And why is Mr. Boddy’s body gone? And is this all possibly a red-herring for Communism? Well, only if Communists are big fans of doing lead pipe-based murders in the conservatory.

Since the 1940s, people have been in love with the Clue franchise (or Cluedo if you’re European.) The board game tasked players with deducing the murder weapon, location, and perpetrator of a terrible crime, all while competing with other party guests-slash-sleuths.

There have been a number of adaptations of the story over the years, including VHS games, extended versions, and even a couple of different musicals. Most famous among these is the cult classic 1985 film–famous for its incredible cast and its three different endings.

Now, via The Hollywood Reporter, we learn that Hasbro and IDW Publishing are working together to bring this famous murder to a new audience. After Transformers, G.I. Joe and My Little Pony were given the comic book extensions, now is the time for Clue.

Announced at Emerald City Comic Con Friday, the classic board game will come to four color life courtesy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles writer Paul Allor, with art by Judge Dredd‘s Nelson Dániel. There’s a modern comedic turn planned, featuring these characters re-invented for a new audience.

Clue2

The first issue alone ends with three multiple endings- a gag we hope they can keep running–and a number of different cover variants.

“In the grand tradition of the Clue franchise, we’re crafting a fun, exciting and at times completely bonkers story that will keep people guessing until the very end!,” Allor told Reporter. “I truly can’t wait for comics readers to step into the mansion and find out just what we have in store for them.”

Clue3

So what do you think? Does Clue need this treatment or do you think anything can touch the genius of the original film? Is the combination of this writer and artist a good match for the property? Sound off in the comments below!
