Back in April of 2005, iam8bit hosted its first ever pop culture art show. Over 1,500 people showed up to Gallery Nineteen Eighty Eight for the event’s debut, and thousands continued to attend throughout the rest of its one-month run. Now, flash forward ten years and the company has expanded its focus, introduced young artists’ imaginative work which blends art, games and pop culture, and inspired hundreds of other galleries along the way.

So, in celebration of their 10th anniversary, iam8bit will be hosting a special show at their in Los Angeles gallery opening June 18, 2015 from 7-11 PM and will run through July 5. The date conveniently opens the last night of E3, which is great if you’re still in town and looking for something to do.

According to the press release, the show is set to put a spotlight on over 150 unique pieces inspired by classic videogames, created by 100 artists including the likes of Mike Mitchell, Ken Wong, Nicole Gustaffson, Nan Lawson, Bob Dob, Thomas Han and several other talented folks.

“Videogames are just as important to culture as movies, music, books and beyond. iam8bit strives to pay loving homage to the incredible imagination that was present in retro games, with an eye toward immortalizing the characters and worlds we love,” said Jon M. Gibson, co-curator of the show. “We’ve been doing this for 10 years now, which in art world years, means iam8bit is about due for a cyborg hip replacement. We’re very excited to have earned such fanfare from the community.”
