Happy Monday, Movie Morselers! Let’s get this work week started with an eye-opening image from Hugh Jackman’s upcoming final Wolverine movie, Logan. Plus, new video promos for Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and much more…
Logan
It’s funny how the restrictions change for movie ratings. Take the latest photo from the third Wolverine movie, for example. Now, when I was a kid, a bloody dismembered arm was perfectly acceptable fare for a PG-rated movie like Star Wars. But today? It’s not only no longer PG-worthy, it’s more or less used to announce Logan‘s R ratingâthe first granted to a Wolverine or X-Men movie. (Not counting Ryan Reynold’s spinoff action comedy Deadpool.) Like the prior pics we’ve seen from the film, this one’s presented in artful black and white, as are two additional evocative images from Logan released via Instagram…
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
If you look hard enough you might be able to see a brief snippet of new footage from the first Harry Potter spinoff film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, in one of three new TV spots for the November 18th release. If nothing else, this movie looks like it will be one of the most handsomely mounted tentpoles of this holiday season. But with a cast comprised of Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, and Ron Perlman, expect a great deal more than just pretty pictures…
Doctor Strange
Instead of quoting Stephen Strange (as I so often do when introducing news about the Sorcerer Supreme’s first feature film), I think I’ll mix it up today by exclaiming a decidedly un-Strange-like “Gadzooks!” Because that’s what I fully expect to say upon seeing Doctor Strange in eye-popping 3D when it debuts on November 4th. As the following IMAX promo makes abundantly clear…

In case you missed it last week, here’s a behind-the-scenes video on the film featuring Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige explaining why Doctor Strange is the perfect gateway drug into the supernatural side of the MCU…

Underworld: Blood Wars
If you like beautiful, pale, po-faced Brits shouting things like, “We fight for our coven!” then have I got a trailer for you! Yes, it’s the first full trailer for Kate Beckinsale’s return to the world of the undead. Underworld: Blood Wars drags Divergent‘s Theo James and Game of Thrones‘ Charles Dance and Tobias Menzies into the franchise, as well as a new director: Anna J. Foerster, who’s also handling Source Code 2.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
Finally today, Jane Goldman has a higher hit ratio than just about any genre screenwriter working today. She even helped Tim Burton make his first narratively coherent film since the ’90s in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children! So when Goldman talks, we listen. Especially when she discusses the sequel to the 2014 hit she penned, Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Regarding how Kingsman: The Golden Circle will differ from its predecessor, the English scribe remarks, “Itâs more crazy than the first one, if such thing is possible, itâs pretty crazy⦠Weâre very fortunate to have Julianne Moore playing the villain, and sheâs incredible⦠I think that people who enjoyed the first one wonât be disappointed. Itâs not about trying to do something more shocking, or more ‘out there,’ itâs about hopefully bringing that freshness and surprise to action scenes, where they donât go in the direction you think theyâre gonna go in.”
