How Many Deadpools Grow Back If You Decapitate Him?

Put your hand on your crocks and grab your favorite tortilla-encapsulated food product, because it’s time for more DP…err Deadpool.

A few weeks ago, I asked my lovely Twitter followers a question (one that was sent to me, keep doing that):

It was an irresistible question, so in my latest Because Science, we are trying to square what we know about real world regeneration with what happens in Deadpool comics, video games, and movies (yes, movies—plural; we technically have to count that first one).

So, if you decapitate Deadpool, what happens? Does the body or the head regenerate? Do two Deadpools come back, leading to an #InfiniteDP situation? In a previous episode, we likened the mutant’s regeneration factor to that of a tiny Mexican cave salamander, the adorable maybe-Pokémon axolotl. Though its power to regrow limbs and eyes and parts of its brain is legitimately superhuman, there are limits. It takes time to grow limbs back, it takes a ton of bodily resources to do so, and not every part of the body can grow back.

Giving Deadpool the benefit of the doubt but with similar limitations, what happens post decapitation? Find out above! Cue the science.

Check out my last video on whether or not Daenerys Targaryen can get a sunburn, subscribe to this playlist to stay current with the show, buy a Because Science shirt (you know why), and follow me on Twitter to give me a suggestion for the next episode!

Special thanks to science writer Matt Simon and Deadpool comic editor Jordan White for their help on this episode!
