Happy Mother’s Day, horror friends! We’ve got a musically-inspired round up this week in Horror Happenings including a big announcement for fans of Jennifer Kent’s Australian hit The Babadook as well as a music video inspired by Insidious: Chapter 3 for Cherry Glazerr’s creepy cover of “Tiptoe Through the Tulips.”
The Babadook Soundtrack Coming To Vinyl From Waxwork Records
Since it’s Mother’s Day, how appropriate that Horror Happenings would be buzzing with The Babadook! Waxwork Records announced via their Instagram account this week that they would release the score composed by Jed Kurzel for Jennifer Kent’s feature film debut on vinyl, teasing us with the creepy tones of Mister Babadook himself. There’s no release date set just yet but as soon as we hear details, we’ll be sure to let you know!
Jennifer Kent Wins Best Director At Australian Directors Guild Awards
Speaking of The Babadook, after going mostly unnoticed in her native country of Australia and then blowing up overseas, Jennifer Kent took home Best Feature Film Director honors this year at the Australian Directors Guild Awards. The honor capped off a whirlwind festival circuit and awards season that began all the way back in January 2014 at the Sundance Film Festival in the US. For more from Kent about her film, the state of horror and what’s next, you can read my interviews with the writer/director here and here. Congratulations, Jennifer!
WATCH: Insidious 3 Inspired Music Video for “Tiptoe Through the Tulips”
If you’re a fan of the Insidious movies, you know that the song “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” is oddly connected to the franchise. For Chapter 3, which hits theaters on June 5, fans were given a spooky treat when we heard LA based indie pop trio Cherry Glazerr cover the song in the first trailer released late last year. Now, there’s an Insidious-inspired music video to go along with the track and it’s pretty fun.
Produced by CINEMAND and directed by Michael Gallagher, the clip, which you can watch below, is a delightful short film complete with the flowing, airy visual style established in the first two movies mixed with some ghastly ghost imagery straight from The Further. Take a look and brace yourselves for Insidious: Chapter 3, written and directed by Leigh Whanell, to hit theaters in a little less than one month!
