Horror Happenings: Ridley Scott on ALIEN: COVENANT, Sarah Wayne Callies’ Latest Scare, and More!

Today in Horror Happenings: Ridley Scott teases a more hardcore Alien: Covenant, Colony‘s Sarah Wayne Callies‘ got a horror movie coming that we totally missed, and a spooky, scary podcast you need to listen to right now!

Ridley Scott Says Alien: Covenant Will Be “Hard ‘R'”

Promises, promises are coming from Ridley Scott regarding his follow-up to his oh-so-divisive (but I still like it) 2012 feature Prometheus. A loose sequel to Scott’s groundbreaking 1979 classic Alien, the director has been riding high this season due to the awards season love for his latest trip to space, The Martian. While speaking to Screen Slam backstage at the Golden Globes, Scott was quoted as saying that Alien: Covenant, due out in 2017, will be a “pretty hard ‘R'” in response to a question about horror fans who are searching for something like the original Alien today.

Let’s not forget that towards the end of last year, Scott was also quoted as saying that the iconic “[e]gg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy” will all make an appearance as well. We also know that Michael Fassbender will reprise his role as David the android and according to Scott, something “much worse” than the infamous and classic chest-burster scene is in the works for the new adventure. Well, if I didn’t need to be convinced before, I certainly don’t need much convincing now! I’m excited to see what Scott will cook up for the new installment of the Alien franchise.

How about you? Do you want to see another dive into the Alien waters from Scott or would you rather someone like Neill Blomkamp move forward with his concepts for Alien 5? Tell us in the comments!

ICYMI: Trailer for The Other Side Of The Door

If you read this column regularly, you know that I do my best to keep you informed of the latest and greatest cool things in horror. So imagine my surprise when I stumbled across the trailer for Colony actress Sarah Wayne Callie’s newest movie The Other Side of the Door. Due out in March of this year, it may appear that the premise might not be anything new, but the trailer itself actually looks great! Featuring a story about a grieving mother in a home away from home, The Other Side of the Door looks to include haunting imagery, twists and turns, and a style of ghost that we haven’t seen in an American made film in a long time. Have a look at the US trailer below and keep your eyes peeled for the film in theaters on March 11, 2016!

Are You Listening to the Lore Podcast?

True crime is all the rage in pop culture right now, from Making A Murderer to Serial and much more in between. Earlier this week, Entertainment Weekly put out a list of the 15 podcasts you need to hear this year and one of the entries was Lore. Lore features true crime stories in a way, but they are true crime stories from generations past and manage to weave in an exploration of legends and folklore from around the world all through recorded history. I have already blown through ten episodes over the last two days and would strongly encourage fans of the horror persuasion to give a listen. Featuring high production value and intricate research from writer, producer, and host Aaron Mahnke, Lore literally sent a real full body shiver down my spine during the finale of episode ten titled “Steam & Gas.” Lore allows you to listen and learn a little something, too, because, as the tagline says, “Sometimes the truth is more frightening than fiction.”
