Horror Happenings: INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3 Still and James Wan Produced DEMONIC Gets Trailer

In a very James Wan heavy installment of Horror Happenings, today we’re looking at a new still from Leigh Whannell‘s directorial debut Insidious Chapter 3 and the trailer for Demonic, produced by Wan, hits the web.

New Insidious Chapter 3 Still

I can’t help my love for the Insidious franchise. Alright, hear me out! First, I love the first movie. Before The Conjuring, Insidous proved that James Wan was able to direct a classic ghost story with a bit of restraint from the sometimes frantic genre directing style displayed by Saw and Dead Silence. With Insidious, I loved how the first two acts were an exercise in tension which made the third act all the more fun when Wan and writer and frequent collaborator Leigh Whannell were let off their leash and went crazy once they got inside The Further. I also love Insidious Chapter 2 because instead of trying to replicate anything from the first film, Wan and Whannell chose to take it in a completely different direction by still invoking scares but using a more over-the-top and absolutely bonkers approach.

Now that Wan has left the franchise as a director but will still serve as a producer, screenwriter Whannell, who also co-stars in the films as sidekick Specs, has directed the third installment, a prequel starring new additions to the cast Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott as well as returning favorites Lin Shaye, Angus Simpson and Whannell. Even though very little is known about the actual plot of the film, a teaser has been released and this week fans caught a glimpse of Shaye in action facing off against an angry looking demon.

Insidious Chapter 3 Still

I’m incredibly excited for the movie and have heard nothing but great things from the folks behind the scenes who have actually seen the flick. Insidious Chapter 3 is due in theaters June 5, 2015.

James Wan Produced Demonic Gets First Trailer

In other “Produced by James Wan” news, Demonic starring The Purge: Anarchy‘s Frank Grillo and Maria Bello made horror headlines when Dimension Films recently postponed releasing the completed movie indefinitely after bumping it off its mid-December 2014 release date. It seemed strange considering Wan’s last producer effort Annabelle made boatloads of money at the box office this past October. Now, we’re getting our first look at the film by way of an trailer that has recently hit the web. While we don’t have an official release date for the film, we should expect the movie to come out sometime in 2015.

Side note, what is up with all of these random horror trailers hitting the web and then the movie disappears from the world forever? In additon to Demonic I’m also thinking of the Eli Roth produced Clown which has premiered in Italy but still has no official release date in North America and Franck Khalfoun’s Amityville: The Awakening which was also set to go in 2014 and got pulled at the last minute. Will we see the trend of dumping every non-tentpole horror movie ever during the month of October continue into 2015? I hope not.
